chicken a la carte

It isn't my first time to watch a short film or documentary featuring hunger in the Philippines. I've seen Jay Taruc's "Basurero" in iWitness two years ago. Last week a friend forwarded a message to our yahoo group with a link to the short story by Ferdinand Dimadura, said to have won the Berlin Short Story Film Festival and has basically the same story as that of Taruc's.

Synopsis of the film:

This film is about the hunger and poverty brought about by gobalization. There are 10,000 people dying everyday due to hunger and malnutrition. This short film shows a forgotten portion of society: the people who live on the refuse of men to survive. What is inspiring is the hope and spirituality that never left this people.

This is a reality that our country's facing, an undeniable fact of hunger that our government should take seriously. It also calls for awareness for everyone of us, think of where you are now, and think of what these people deal with everyday. If you care enough, you will also think deeply how these children's laughter could break your heart terribly.
